Stowe’s Shelly Smith Earns ADK’s Excellence in Education Honors

Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization for women educators.

ADK annually selects a member teacher who is nominated by her principal, another administrator and a member of her local chapter for the Excellence in Education Award.

Shelly Smith, who teaches Reading Recovery at Stowe Elementary, has been named the Iowa winner for 2016.

She began her career as a classroom teacher and was previously selected for the Sallie Mae First Year Teacher Award.  Only 100 first year teachers around the country are so recognized each year.

Smith has also taught ELL students and conducted research for ways to help struggling readers.  Congratulations Ms. Smith!
